untitled005 300x238 Our Practice Dublin BracesWelcome to ‘Dublin Braces’, which provides specialist orthodontic treatment care in Blackrock, South County Dublin and in Firhouse, Dublin 24. Our priority is to provide you with the highest quality of orthodontic care in an efficient and friendly environment.  We utilise all the latest technological advances to ensure you receive the most appropriate  and effective care possible.

Our aim is to create beautiful straight teeth and we look forward to advising you on how we can improve your smile. Orthodontics involves the wearing of either removable or fixed braces to improve:

- the health of the teeth and gums

- the appearance of teeth and face

- the type and function of the bite.

Please browse through our gallery to see some examples of our ‘before and after’ orthodontic treatments.

The types of braces are explained in greater detail elsewhere but are generally divided into ‘removable braces’, which are removed for cleaning and certain social occasions and ‘fixed braces’, which are glued to the teeth and cannot be removed. Getting used to wearing the brace is not painful, however it is not uncommon to have slightly tender teeth for a few days after each adjustment as the teeth respond and tooth movement progresses.

The success of the treatment is directly related to your co-operation with frequent toothbrushing, attending regularly for your appointments, avoiding toffees, boiled sweets, sugar- containing drinks and excessive fruit juice consumption. Crunchy hard fruit and vegetables which may damage the braces such as raw carrots, apples etc. would need to be shredded or sliced.

Failure to keep your teeth and brace adequately clean will lead to permanent damage to your enamel.  At the end of treatment it is normal for all teeth to try to return towards their original position, so, in order to prevent this you will be fitted with various types of holding or retaining appliances, these are generally worn full-time for a period and part-time thereafter. However, the type of retention applicable to you will be explained before the treatment starts and again when the active braces are removed.
